Impact
For several years, we have hosted students from local middle schools who were interested in Engineering and Robotics. Ranging from ages 10 to 14, these students have learned the ropes of the competition earlier than most members. As a result of this program, our hosted students enter high school more prepared for the faster curriculum and full robotics team participation.
As members of a FIRST Robotics Team, these students become more interested in the fields of technology, science, engineering, math, and even business. They have a strong community presence, being willing to volunteer and provide help wherever it is needed.
The workshop is a positive working and learning environment where students can feel comfortable with themselves and their abilities. Here members learn to work cooperatively and on a schedule to complete a difficult task. As a result, our members are prepared for the college workload when they graduate.
Graduates have chosen fields such as Computer Science, Cyber Security, Mechanical Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering after participating in the Nottingham FIRST Robotics program. We have sent students to Princeton University, Rutgers University, American University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Stevens Institute of Technology, and many other distinguished institutions. Most of our members have been in the top 15% of their class and continued to succeed in college.
