FIRST Games - 2008 - Overdrive
Read the rules here.
In Overdrive, robots raced around a track with large "trackballs." In the autonomous period, when no human controls the robot, 4 points apiece were awarded for crossing a lane marker, crossing the opposing alliance's finish line, and crossing the robot's own finish line. The trackballs served to keep the game from being just a race.
Trackball scoring in autonomous:
Remove ball from "Overpass": 8 points
Ball crosses alliance finish line under Overpass: 2 points
Ball crosses alliance finish line over Overpass: 8 points
Trackball scoring in tele-operated (human controlled):
Remove ball from "Overpass": 0 points
Ball crosses alliance finish line under Overpass: 2 points
Ball crosses alliance finish line over Overpass: 8 points
Ball is placed on Overpass during End Game: 12 points
Team 2191 created a robot meant to knock trackballs off of the overpass and, ideally, replace them during the End Game. However, the robot was terribly top-heavy and the arm was not strong enough to hold the oversized kickballs. While it was sufficient at righting itself when it fell over, the robot was primarily a defensive robot.
