FIRST Games - 2007 - Rack 'N' Roll
Read the rules here.
The Rack 'N' Roll competition was Team 2191's first game in FRC. In this game, there was a construction (the "rack") in the center of the field with several posts of pegs ("Spider's legs") rotated around a point. The teams were instructed to build robots that could pick up donut-shaped tubes and place those tubes on the pegs. Additional points were awarded for placing tubes in a horizontal or vertical row, as in "Connect Four."
Scoring:
SINGLETON (One solitary tube) - 2 points
ROW of 2 SCORED SPIDER LEGS - 4 points
ROW of 3 SCORED SPIDER LEGS - 8 points
ROW of 4 SCORED SPIDER LEGS - 16 points
ROW of 5 SCORED SPIDER LEGS - 32 points
ROW of 6 SCORED SPIDER LEGS - 64 points
ROW of 7 SCORED SPIDER LEGS - 128 points
ROW of 8 SCORED SPIDER LEGS - 256 points
At the end of the match, robots entered the End Game, in which they attempted to win extra points by ending the game in the home zone, not in contact with any part of the field (including the carpet!). Robots were not allowed in the opposite alliance's zone, in order to allow each alliance to safely attempt the challenge. Consequently, one robot on an alliance would lift another off the floor.
Scoring:
Each ROBOT between 0 and 3.9 inches above floor level - 0 bonus points
Each ROBOT between 4.0 and 11.9 inches above floor level - 15 bonus points
Each ROBOT 12.0 inches or more above floor level - 30 bonus points
Team 2191 built a robot that best catered to the End Game. As a result of its effective lifting, the robot was chosen to progress into Quarter Finals.
